Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park
The Historical Park is located near Danbury, Wisconsin on 80 beautiful wooded acres along the historic Yellow River.
This is a living history site with two Fur Trade Posts; North West Company and XY Company, reconstructed on the site known to be active from 1802 to 1805. An Ojibwe Village offers insight into Ojibwe life during the time of the fur trade. Several museums, including a logging museum and one-room schoolhouse, showcase other aspects of Wisconsin and Burnett County history.

BURNETT COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY seeks a full-time Director
The Burnett County Historical Society/Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park (The Forts) is seeking a full-time Director to provide strategic and operational leadership at our beautifully wooded 80-acre site in the "Fishbowl" region of northwest Wisconsin. The Forts is a living history site with reconstructed fur trading posts, an Ojibwe Village, a One-room Schoolhouse and many other historic attractions, There are many events at The Forts each year including several "rendezvous" with period specific clothing, skill demonstrations, a primitive biathlon, music festivals, food festivals, and Christmas at The Forts. In this position you would work to ensure that the critical and colorful history of the fur trade, logging industry and the historic relationship with the Ojibwe in Burnett County is preserved and shared with many. Responsibilities include working with the Board and committees in: Strategic Planning, Budgeting, Staff Management, Membership Programs, Volunteer Programs, Educational and Tour Programs. Operational responsibilities for facilities, grounds, gift shop, and Historical Research Library. Qualifications include enthusiasm and passion for The Fort's mission. Ability to develop and drive strategies for key initiatives. excellent communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and productively with others. Working knowledge of professional museum practices and standards. Experience with Word, Excel and QuickBooks. Education and Training: Bachelors or 3 - 5 years equivalent experiences in history, historic preservation, museum management or related field such as teaching is preferred. This is a full-time position, and we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. April 22 - 27, 2024 is CLEAN UP WEEK at the Forts. Time to clean, replace, repair and prepare for the 2024 Tour Season. Many volunteers are needed as there are numerous projects needing attention. Whether you can help only a few hours or a day or more, your help is greatly appreciated. There are projects from dusting to construction and the cutting of firewood. It is your chance to leave your "finger print" on the past, present and future of the unique history and future of Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park. PLEASE consider helping us out that week.
